Since pioneering times, plaiting (or braiding) with KANGAROO leather has been widely practised in the Australian Outback.
No other leather can be cut into such fine thongs, yet retain tensile strength like KANGAROO.
With this remarkable leather the Australian bushman has added a unique style to an ancient art.
The pelts are available through the Government’s kangaroo conservation programme.
They are tanned with an extract from the bark of the wattle tree. The thongs are cut, bevelled, and plaited by hand.
